It may be easier said than done, as new indie title Ooblets pushes back against some of these tropes, but finds itself toeing the familiar farming sim territory more often than not. The game effectively captures the nostalgia players feel for the older games, but perhaps it's time for farming sims to move on and progress past the "city person inherits an old farm and has to move to a small, backwards town and befriend and intermarry with the locals" mentality. The farming sim is well-worn territory for developers, so much so that Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town is a faithful remake of another faithful remake. Players could also participate in activities which would show up in later games such as Stardew Valley like horse race betting, dating, and participating in festivals. Back to Nature featured seasonal weather patterns that would affect which crops could flourish. The townspeople get together and share food, celebrating the recent harvest. FALL 12 HARVEST FESTIVAL The Harvest Festival is similar to the American Thanksgiving holiday. You can choose any of the town girls as your partner. Plant crops, raise animals, build relationships, and get to know the residents of your new home in this brand-new entry in. That game was released in 1999 for the PlayStation. After speaking with all the townspeople, talk to the mayor's wife and mayor on the left side to begin the dance. Now that you've taken over his farm, it's your job to carry on his legacy. It turns out that Harvest Moon: Mineral Town is not an original concept either, as the game is a remake of Harvest Moon: Back to Nature.
